Marie Antoinette

Bio

Marie Antoinette is a native New Englander and graduate of the University of Massachusetts. She also holds a Masters in Cosmetology.

Marie’s Love Language is the intersection between art and fashion, that is where she thrives as a self taught, mixed media artist. That being said, Her body of work includes but is not limited too photography, clothing, textile, wallpaper and most recently painting.

Marie has curated numerous fashion shows, artistic displays, and cultural events world wide. Currently her home collection of collaged picture frames, lamps, and planters are featured at Arts'tination Gallery, National Harbor Maryland where she is a resident artist.

Marie credits her creative process and diverse approach to extensive travel, living abroad, and the strong cultural influences she experienced as a child growing up in the wake of the 70’s race riots. Furthermore Marie acknowledges the ancestral contributions of coming from a family of Quilters. Marie is committed to creating works that are noteworthy.

Artist Statement

Fashion is my first love and has always been a conduit for artistic and self-expression. My formula as it pertains to my art is not structured at all. If you ask me to explain my techniques I would struggle to find the words to convey my creative process, it is innate. I am clear however on my intent, to impart warmth to the heart, a smile on the lips , and perhaps a provoking thought to be considered.

I have been told that I am a maximalist because of my usage of bold patterns and bright colors but I like to think that I use them in an understated way. I challenge traditional constraints and love to bend, blend and blur the lines in the process. I am committed to changing the narrative and taking up as much artistic space as possible.

I see myself as a young at heart, gifted black woman who paints with paper.
